The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that, between 2019 and 2028,  jobs in the field of Translation and Interpreting will grow nearly four times more rapidly than the average rate of growth across professions. While the undergraduate certificate does not appear on your transcript, its addition to your resumé helps you stand out, and the skills you acquire will apply to a variety of professional settings.  Upon successful completion of the certificate program, you will be issued a physical certificate for your records.

The undergraduate certificate in Translation and Interpreting Studies is open to all undergraduate students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign who have successfully completed at least six semesters of college-level study of a non-English language, and to those who can demonstrate equivalent proficiency. Required courses introduce students to the general profession of Translation and Interpreting (TRST 201) and to the theoretical bases for professional practice in these areas (TRST 410).  Students then choose to study a particular area in depth, by taking two courses in the same area; or to branch out and gain advanced knowledge in different areas.
