The undergraduate certificate will help you stand out on your resumé, and the skills you gain will apply across a wide range of professional settings even though the certificate itself does not appear on your transcript. Upon successful completion of the certificate program, you will be issued a physical certificate for your records.
The undergraduate certificate in Translation and Interpreting Studies is open to all undergraduate students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign who have successfully completed at least six semesters of college-level study of a non-English language, and to those who can demonstrate equivalent proficiency. Required courses introduce students to the general profession of Translation and Interpreting (TRST 201) and to the theoretical bases for professional practice in these areas (TRST 410). Students then choose to study a particular area in depth, by taking two courses in the same area; or to branch out and gain advanced knowledge in different areas.
