Students use computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools in several of our courses--not just in our dedicated CAT Tools course, but also in coursework on Terminology, Localization, and specialized Translation for the Professions courses. Students are also encouraged to use them in other courses, such as their Capstone project. Licenses are provided free of charge to all students.
Our curriculum includes a practice of Wordfast translation tools, courtesy of Wordfast LLC and Yves Champollion.
The University of Illinois also participates in the SDL Academic Partner Program, which provides the following advantages to our students:
- Free SDL certification courseware and examinations
- Student Software License discounts
- SDL Internships
- Top student awards
